Ordering the food is never the fun job. Get it wrong and everyone is polite about it, which is worse than complaining. Here are ten things people actually get up for, with real prices and what each one feeds.
If you want it simple, order one bento box per person at $20 to $26 each. If you want it to look good, order platters and budget $40 to $50 a head.

Because there is nothing to serve. One box, one person, done.
No serving spoons, no queue, no working out who is allergic to what while forty people watch. Every box is a complete meal with your choice of base at no extra cost: vermicelli noodles with herbs and salad, garden salad, or rice and salad. All gluten free.
Add a fried egg to any box for $3.00. Worth it.
Rice paper rolls and mini banh mi. They photograph well and they disappear fast.
Rice paper rolls are the ones people reach for first, and ours was named #11 Dish in the World on the Urban Adventures Street Food 50 list. They are sold by count, not by tray.
Mini banh mi are the other crowd pleaser. Small versions of the sandwich The Urban List called one of Sydney’s best. 12 pieces for $102.00, 25 for $212.50, 50 for $425.00.
Both are eaten with one hand, which matters more than it sounds when people are standing up and talking.
The Famous Roast Pork and Crackle Platter. It is the one people talk about afterwards.
Small feeds about 5 at $85.00, medium feeds 5 to 10 at $175.00, large feeds 10 to 20 at $350.00. Gluten free.
Other mains at the same price points: Lemongrass Beef Platter and Lemongrass Chicken Fillet Platter, both $85.00, $175.00 and $350.00. If you want to go up a level, the Garlic Tiger Prawns Platter is $96.00, $200.00 and $390.00.
One tip from doing a lot of these. Order one protein platter per 8 to 10 people and fill the rest of the table with sides. People take less of the expensive thing than you expect when there is plenty of everything else.
One or two protein platters, then bases and salad on the side, and let people build their own.
This is the best option when you have a mixed room. Vegetarians, gluten free, the person doing low carb this month and the person who eats everything all get a real meal out of the same table without a special order.
Finger food, sold by the piece, that nobody needs a plate for.
The rice net spring rolls are the value pick on the whole menu at $22.80 for a dozen. They are vegetarian, they look impressive, and nobody guesses what they cost.
Order the vegetarian options as part of the main spread, not as a separate sad tray in the corner.
Here is the thing nobody says out loud. Put the vegetarian rice paper rolls on the same table as everything else and the meat eaters will eat them too. Order more than you think you need for the vegetarians, or they will miss out entirely.
Yes, and it is cheaper than people assume.
Banh ran works out at $3.50 a serve, which is $35.00 for 10. Easiest yes on this whole page.
For coffee, the Vietnamese Cream Cloud Latte and the Vietnamese Jelly Coffee Latte are $9.00 each. Vietnamese coffee is strong. Order it for a 2pm meeting and watch the room change.
At least 3 days. The roast pork is done fresh and some of it is slow cooked, so a big order is not something we can turn around the same morning.

The recipes came from a grandmother in Can Tho, in southern Vietnam, who ran her own restaurant and who the family still talk about like a legend.
Her grandson was carried to Australia on a boat as a baby. In 2008 he quit an office job to sell Vietnamese street food, against the advice of nearly everyone, and sold the first property his mother had helped him buy to fund it. She backed him when nobody else did, and she died before the shop opened.
Great Aunty Three opened in 2011 and spent fifteen years on Enmore Road. Tiffany and her team run the kitchen now in Pyrmont.

Individual bento boxes. You order one per person, everyone gets a complete meal, and there is nothing to portion out on the day. At Great Aunty Three bento boxes are $20 to $26 each, or up to $29 with a fried egg added. No serving spoons, no queue, no arguing over the last piece.
